How long has everyone here been trading? I've been doing this for seven years and I only have 62 pins! I can't fill up an entire corkboard, let alone a
full room of frames. Maybe it's because I'm young and usually only have 20 dollars a trip to spend on pins, but I go to WDW a LOT and my pin collection
does not reflect that at all.

I've been collecting since 2001. You have to be careful because money can be an issue very quickly. I had to take a year and a half off of pin collecting
as I racked up way too much debt trying to stay up on all the pins.
It's very difficult to maintain the balance between healthy and unhealthy collecting. I see myself starting to head to the unhealthy side again. Just keep getting what you like as you can afford it and enjoy what you have. 62 pins is still a lot and would make a few great frames themselves. |

LOL You do it by spending far, far, far too much money. That's why getting a good education which will lead to a good job is so important... so you can
afford to pay the rent AND buy pins!
But the real answer is: you build a collection one pin at a time. One of the many nice things here on the boards, if you save your money, you can get a good deal buying inexpensive trader pins on the sales board - and you may even find one or two in there that you'll want to keep, depending on what characters or themes you collect. I've been collecting since 1998 and have a little over 2100 pins in my collection, BUT...I've stopped collecting almost everything else I used to
collect in order to devote my funds to my pin collection. I also have to explain that while I live 2000 miles from DLR and 3000 miles from DLR I can't get
to the parks as readily as some, and therefore it is always an expense to go to the park. I can fairly say that I spend almost $500 a trip on my pins, but
again...IF I go twice a year it's a big thing.
As someone above me stated...one pin at a time! ~* Noreen*~

I'm brand new to the boards and even though I've only been collecting for two years I have already amassed over 200 pins and it's very hard not to
let the collection grow exponentially. To be honest, I did lost some control at my first pin event last September, but my main focus is Figment so I find that
keeps my spending in check for the most part. The advice I've heard most from people is try to keep it to your favorite theme or character and stick with
a budget. And I have to agree with the veterans who've already posted "one pin at a time"!

If you have $20 per trip to spend on pins... SAVE it!! Get your traders here on the sale board and get WAY more pins for your money!!! Take them to the park
and then trade them out for something better, then repeat... and repeat... until you get the pin(s) you want for your collection!

we've been collecting since 04 we don't have that many more than u do its just patience and being picky and not having all the money is a good thing
trust me. shells advice is great! you can find awesome things on lanyards at the parks even if they arent from your collection it could be a good trader on
pinpics. also disneyshopping.com has semi annual sales where its good to get LE pins for cheaper than normal. when it happens someone will do a post letting
everyone know about it :P and the sale boards here are a great way to save on awesome pins! like ive been told ALOT its not about how many u have its about the
fun you have and the people you meet

Also being relatively new to trading, just like many others have already stated. Purchase your trader pins here on the boards, you'll get a lot more bang
for your bucks so to speak. Also just remember that it doesn't matter if you have 62 pins or 6200 pins, as long as you're enjoying the experience of
pin trading, the amount of pins you have is just a number. You may never catch up to some of the collectors that have been collecting for years, but that's
ok, its the entertainment and enjoyment you get out of the process that makes pin trading what it is.

I have been collecting since '03, but did not start trading until late '05. I can tell you that I only have about 200 pins in my collection. I find
that the best way to get more pins at Disneyland during the summer is to do the mystery pin boxes. This is where you search for the Hidden Mickey, or whatever
they call that summer collection, and if you find it inside a nox on the cart you get another free pin. This is helpful, because if you do not collect Hidden
Mickey you now have to more traders!

I've been collecting since 1984/5...and trading since WDW made it a big thing in 1999/2000.

Perspective is what is most important. | ||
|
For example:
Get Super Jumbo pins, and move to a very small apartment. It will look like you have a lot of pins! Spread your pins out... use a big wall and space the pins out so there's maybe 5 or 6 feet between them. Voila! A pin-wall! Use a pin background to put your pins on: nobody will be able to tell which is a pin, and which is a picture of a pin! You can also always buy traders in bulk at one of the auction sites: generally pay $1 or $2 per pin and you have a TON of traders if you live close enough to the parks to make them swappers. (And until you swap them, think of the fun you can have organizing, cataloging, and entering your collection on pinpics! Lastly: focus on the journey, not the destination. Half the fun of being there is just going! |
