What has to be taken into account at PinPics, especially when trying to trade for older pins, is that even if it says that 2 or 5 or 23 are trading it - many or most of those people probably haven't actually traded pins online in several years. Those accounts are essentially vacant with likely outdated e-mail addresses that won't even reach those people anymore.

I know that with many of the older pins that I am looking for, even if people are listed as trading it, I have to remember to go in and check each individual trader's lists and generally find that most haven't traded since 2005 or 2006.

So really, even if PinPics says that several people are trading the pin you're looking for, because there's no 'cleaning out' of inactive accounts, there may really be no one trading that pin. Check and see that last time that trader either had a reference (if there's an e-mail address) or added to their wants list. If they haven't added a want since pin 38706 or somesuch, odds are, they're not trading pins online anymore.

Sigh. I do wish there was a way to put accounts 'on hold' or something if they haven't been updated in over a year or two.

^ Then why do I see tons of traders who haven't updated any of their lists in years nor had references in years still listed as trading pins? I don't see how those are active accounts with those pins actually being available for trade.

I could probably list 1/3 of the pins I'm looking for where all or most of the traders haven't earned trade references or updated any of their lists in years and certainly don't respond to trade offers.

For example:

And those are just a handful of examples of pins/traders I've been attempting to contact/make offers to for a year and a half because they are listed as having the pin available for trade.

I cannot believe that all of these people are supposedly active users - though I would be thrilled if they were! I spend hours weekly (used to be daily, but I keep running into the above and getting frustrated) weeding through inactive traders to try to come up with viable trades. It just feels like I'm wasting a lot of time weeding out and never getting to the seed-planting 'cause no one is doing any trimming! LOL

Please understand that I am SO APPRECIATIVE of the folks who run and mod PinPics (and this board). PinPics is a priceless resource. But I can't correlate how inactive accounts can be cleaned out given the above that I constantly run into. If the PinPics folks need help identifying outdated accounts such as the above, can I volunteer to help point out at least a few? And if everyone else could help notify PinPics when they see the same thing, perhaps we can self-police if there's no way of automatically de-activating non-updated accounts after a year or so. Just a thought. I'm absolutely willing to help as I can - I'm just frustrated that I haven't been able to help despite plenty of postings about inactive accounts cluttering the database.

^ But even as a reference source, when clearly the lists haven't been updated in a year or two or four - doesn't it make sense to remove them from the active trading count? I'm not suggesting erasing anyone's account, but just removing those pins/accounts from the available trade numbers?

I still think it would be a lot easier to know that there are zero people actively trading a pin than to spend hours trying to come up with trade offers for seven people who are listed as trading a pin but really aren't.
