Dizpins Ohana Member Posts: 3 (10/24/09 12:39 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Just returned from a trip to WDW and yesterday we went to DTD to pin trade and I thought I made some awesome trades and it turned out I was scammed out of a lot of my hard earned pins for fakes . I feel like such a fool. I don't really keep up on the latest scrappers and such and I generally have always trusted the people outside of pintraders at the tables. Well this time I was royally screwed. I traded for like 10 pins with two different people who were together at seperate tables and I believe that 8/10 of them were scrappers.... and I know there were a lot more scappers in their books after I saw the latest thread on it. One of the pins the traded me for "Donald Waiting for Christmas" isn't even supposed to come out until November.. I also got this Muppet Show Fozzie LE 300 that's fake. Fake Eyeore June Gloom Pin. and five letter pins that have one nub and none of them have the starburst pin trader sign E, F, N, S, T... The F look sespecially bad. The thing that bothers me the most is that this wasn't just like a random fake pin that found their way into these people's collection... Almost all their pins were fake and they were obviously (in hindsight) just buying them directly from China and trading them at DTD. The worst is I wasn't just trading booster pack cuties or rack pins... I traded a lot of LE, Cast Exclusive etc..... I'm very upset about it... I completed the alphabet... but now looking back I bet alot of them are fake... the whole thing makes me sick to my stomach

I returned last week from WDW with some legit pins and some scrappers. Just so you know- the Alphabet pins were issued in 2008 without the starburst so the lack of it by itself does not make a scrapper. Look for flat paint, "off" colors, bad edges. If you have duplicates of the same pin, compare the 2. One might be scrap and the other legit. Hope this helps.

I was so mad at myself. Even some DS pins were fakes, which made it even more upsetting. I honestly do not know what to do anymore. Like you say, what if it happened to them? Well, a lot of these people only own scrappers, so nothing will ever upset them. Is this a result of new traders not being able to afford the costs of pins, due to the economy? Or is it greed to try and get the most you can out of a trade? If it is the fact that they simply do not know, then how can we make them more aware? We have this beautiful site with all of the pin comparisons, pics of upcoming fake pins, and lots more, but they tell me they are not familiar with Dizpins or Pinpics. Then I give them all the info to get here, and they do not do one thing to learn.

Nope, for the most part, 98% of them know better and they just don't care. I've steered clear of WDW DTD Pin Traders for probably 8 years or better, just because of different reputations it received..none good (which is a shame btw). On line is no better. I've tried to help educate and all I get back is "this is just for fun" ect.. One trader refused to send my good pin back because he sent me a scrapper. I told him no more TAs, ect. He still sends them trying to pawn off the pins he buys from ebay. I've just gotten to the point to where I ask all kinds of questions before I'll trade. It seems to make some traders angry, but it's my collection and I don't want junk in it. I care. I paid a ton of money for all my pins these past 9+ years. If people can't afford to be in the hobby, get out. I can't afford to buy a Rolls Royce...I don't go find counterfit money and try to scam the car dealer. It's the same exact thing! It's the same exact thing! You hit it right on the dot! That is exactly what has been happening. I am going to be up there in one month, and am so very sad. I bought 150 legitimate traders, straight from Disney, and cannot even trade with cast members, for fear of getting a fake pin back. Who in their right mind spends good money to trade and get back a fifty cent pin? I know it is for fun, but it is for legitimate fun, not underhanded scheming fun. That is what we cannot seem to get across to the people that trade these fake pins. I do not think they can comprehend just how much money goes into the world of honest pin trading.
