A silly question???? |
Lead | |
|
I was just wondering if anyone has ever traded multiple rack pins for an LE pin. I'm running out of LE 250 & 100 to trade, but no one seems to want to
trade my hidden mickeys or rack pins. I was just hoping that there are people out there who don't have to trade match for match. Thanks for the input.

That's not a silly question. Is it common to sometimes trade multiple pins whether is be an le, rack, auction, etc.
Rack pins can be difficult to trade. Many people don't buy extras of rack pins anymore, so it creates the illusion that the rack pin may be hard to trade for, while the pin remains available on the rack for sale. Hope I didn't confuse you more. Donna

While some people are willing to trade for multiple pins, the few people I know who would accept rack pins or hidden mickey pins for their harder to find,
lower edition size pins, would ask for really high amounts(like 35 hidden mickeys, I'm not even joking). Most people like to trade their lower edition size
pins for pins of equal desirability/rarity.

I trade anything,
I have traded le 250 pins for le 2000 pins. I have given 4-5 rack pins for an LE and had the same done in reverse. Ive traded Le 100 pin sets for multiple Le pins. My only issue with trading rack pins is that doing them one at a time is costly to ship. If i cant get a multi trade i somethimes just wont do the trade. Le is going out the door on many pins. Most le 250 disney shopping pin is becoming a dime a dozen. they arent even selling out for months. Theres just so many out there. Mostly It depends on what you think your pin is worth. The new Haunted mansion Stretching portrait pins are open edition but people want a lot in trade for them. I make offers all the time of rack pins for LE's and LE's for rack pins. Some people say that its a silly offer but if i sell my 4 pins that i offered, I could buy their pin and have made a profit. I definitly dont have to trade match for match Kirk |

I am one of those who would definately trade multiple rack pins for an LE especially if it is one I really want. I have even traded LE's for rack pins
(since I don't live near a park and sometimes they are harder to get). I am pretty easy going. The problem is finding people who are in the same mind
set...which is probably why my trading has slacked off.

I, too, am pretty much open to all kinds of trades.
Have sent a 2-4 open rack/hidden mickeys for 1 LE Have sent 1 LE for only 1 open rack.. Just depends. I don't really think too much about the trades--just go with my first instinct. Only once have I made a trade that I thought later "what the heck was I thinking?". So one out of hundreds of trades isn't too bad..I think I'll stick with my strategy. Hope this helps! |

Apparently none of you were at the MOP. I worked very hard to trade the entire time and only managed to get 3 pins off my wants list. 99% of the people I
talked with wanted to only trade equal for equal. It was disappointing and frustrating for me. I worked very hard to organize my pins and it was so
disappointing for me. I wish some of you had been there. There was only lady and one gentleman who were so nice about trading, but again it was equal for
equal. I just feel like I'm stuck with rack pins that I don't need anymore, but can't trade for anything.

I was at MOP, and the Riverside. With so many people, it's sometimes hard to find someone. Here's a tip for next time. Try to set up one or two
pretrades - someone that will be at the event and has a pin you want. This way - you have a starting point with someone, and can look through their books to
see if there is anything else. This way - you already have someone to look for, and you don't have to enter a crowded room trying to figure out which way
to go first.

I agree with the above statement. I was at Riverside and this was only my second time ever going to a trading meet(first was very bad). Since I already had a
pretrade set up and someone to look for(thanks Connie!) It was not AS scary, still SUPER scary, just not as bad as it would have been. I was still way too shy
to talk to many other people and definitely too shy to try and trade. I wish you had been there Margaret, I was SO looking forward to meeting you, and we could
have been new together.

Thanks for the comments, but how do you set up a pretrade? I've tried pinpics and most of the time don't even get the courtsey of a reply. If I could
do that it would be great. I'm going to try to go to the pin event in August if I don't have to have more surgery.

A few weeks before the event you can post on the trade board something like "hello, I am attending the event in August. If someone is interested in a
pre-trade before the event, please take a look at my traders and send me a yuku message. My wants are listed under xxx . I look forward to hearing from you
and hope to see you at the event"
Just an idea, and you change the wording to anything you like. Donna

That seems pretty good to me. When I'm at a pin trading night and usually on pinpics, many people want better pins as an incentive to even think about a
trade.
Theres still so many people who are fair traders and do it for the fun. not to upgrade Happy trades Kirk |

I am doing it for fun or I wouldn't have 1800 pins. I love trading and I realize that it's my fault for not finding out more before I started trading.
I'm not looking to upgrade, just complete my Alice in Wonderland collection for my grandchild before I die. I'm working Pinpics more and trying to put
together a list of what I need the most. Thanks so everyone for ALL the help and encouragement. It picks me up and makes me ready to trade again.

If I had an LE that someone wanted and there was a rack pin (or a few rack pins) that I really wanted which that person had, I would definitely trade. One
should think of it as an "upgrade" since it's one pin (which was probably bought at a rack price) for multiple pins....
Now, of course, if the person spent a lot of money on the LE, I could see that person wanting a "return" on his/her investment....mind you, if I was paying a lot for an LE, I would keep it... |

StarryJedi wrote:I agree with this. I'll trade an LE for multiple rack pins but with some stipulations: 1) It would have to be an LE that is not impossible to find. If it is an LE 250 but there are 20 of them on ebay, then sure, I'd consider trading it for multiple rack pins. 2) They would have to be rack pins that I actually wanted. I can flip through anyone's book and find numerous pins that I think are cute, but that doesn't mean I want them. Since rack/hidden mickey pins are sometimes hard to get rid of and often wind up as lanyard traders, I wouldn't trade a low LE for them unless I really wanted them. 3) If it is a "high end" LE I wouldn't even consider trading it for multiples unless I had run out of really difficult pins that I am searching for which would probably never happen. And if it did, I'd be more likely to sell my pin rather than trade it for multiples. I'd only trade a "high end" LE pin for a "high end" rack pin that is super rare and equivalent in value. On the flip side, I have some rack pins that I wouldn't trade for some LE 1000s (for example). There are some rack pins that for whatever reason are just harder to find. I wouldn't want to trade my difficult to find rack pin for an LE pin I can get for $7.99 on the bay all day. It's just a matter of being in the right place with the right person and the right pins at the right time. If someone has a pin you want but all they are looking for is Stitch or Haunted Mansion and you don't have any of that, then it probably won't work out. It isn't that they are being difficult and just won't trade, it's that both parties need to walk away happy. If they aren't getting what they want out of the trade then it isn't the right trade for them. It just takes time.....and unfortunately with some pins, it is just better to bite the bullet and buy them when they come available. Cash is the ultimate trader because it is on everyone's wants list. |
