i know this is prob a stupid question...

I am by no means the expert in this but the way I understand it is when Disney orders a pin to be made the company first sends Disney preproduction Samples (or
proofs) these usually are in different colored metals so that Disney can determine which version looks the best, once they select the version they want from
the samples the company produces the pin, they also make Artist Proofs which is a sample that the artist can look at to see what the final designed pin will
look like.

Sometimes these are stamped (PP - I think) and other samples (usually a black, silver and gold version) will not have the stamp on them.
The Artist Proof usually also has a AP stamped on the back. Dana dizneyusa
