Silly offers for trade? |
Lead | |
|
I still get decent offers from time to time but it seems like in the last few weeks I am getting more and more silly offers for trades in email. I have a LOT
of pins to add to my collection and my traders. Trouble is, I am starting to question if it is worth the effort. I keep getting offers of easily obtained cast
pins for hard to find LEs. For every fair trade I get I probably get 5 requests for trade that just don't make sense.
Am I just going thru a patch of silly offers or are others seeing this too? |

I think all of us get silly offers, and sometimes send them without realising it, or you mean to offer multiple pins and only one goes to a particular person,
etc. but honestly, how long does it really take to look at the offer and either send a quick 'no thanks' or delete it? I get up to 20 silly offers a
week or more, I don't consider it a big deal. That's just part of trading to me.

I get many an offer that makes me chuckle. It seems more recently that newer traders are just checking everything that they would trade for a certain pin.
Not knowing that one person will get 20 offers and another person will get 1. I have made many a mistake when making offers and that goes both ways. I dont really care that i was offered the 2008 dated tink pin for my POH peter pan but i wish that traders would put a note in the offer stating that they are offering multiple pins for my pin. that way i know if they were mistaken or really are making that offer. My favorite is when i make the mistake and i get an enthusiastic YES!!!!!! (with an address ready to go) to trade my super jumbo scoop for their halloween party stitch on broom. Just remember that people also value their pins differently. I just offered my disney resorts logo icon pin for a DLR POH. I thought it was a good offer since they sell for the same price. The other trader did not agree. Many times I reply with an explaination as to why i am not interested in trading Happy trades Kirk |

This is such a daily thing for me lately... at least 4-5 a day and maybe 1-3 a month that are worth trading for. I know I get this one trade offer from the
same person every single day offering me one of the state pins for a bunch of my lowest LE pins. I have said no thank you about 4 times but I keep getting it.
I also get offered the Stitch Invasion series all the time which I really want but I am not trading LE 250 pins for them.
I don't know, I was just
telling dh this today... I don't get why I get so many one sided offers and VERY rarely anything good that I consider fair. I would love to be able to make
more trades but not like this..lol

Goes with the territory I guess. I just smile and delete. I get too many each day (20-30+) to reply no to. Weather they are newbies or not, one needs to take
the time to learn about pins before just sending off TAs (just my opinion only). Sorry, but I'm just not going to trade current, open edition or booster
pins for my very low LEs or vhtf LEs. Just not going to happen. A lot of the time I think it's the something for nothing mentality, but again, just my
opinion.
If I felt the bad in pin trading out weighed the good, I'd have found another hobby a long time ago. It's too much fun to let the 'little' things get you down or bother you.

uhoh....I'm sure you have all received some crazy offers from me or repeat offers for that matter and for that i guess i'm sorry but it really is part
of trading. you have to remember that people really do value pins differently. i have been questing for an OE pin for a really long time and i am at the
point in my collection that it is only 1 of 3 pins left to complete it so i have offered multiple LE's for it. doesn't that seem like a lopsided
request? that just happens to be in the other traders favor. however, i have also very on the other side of a trade when it seems to have fallen in my favor.
it's all relative to the trader and what the particular pin means to them.
just as a side note, i don't think it takes much to say no thanks or if you're really that turned off i suppose you can simply not reply and the other trader will get the idea, but i do think sometimes people can be rude in their responses. i had a person recently reply with a rude comment about how his pin had a much high *bay value than my pin and therefore he did not feel the "urge" to trade it. i thought a simple "no thanks" would have sufficed. and my offer i thought was fair as my pin had better trade ratios. so again, who knows? |

echoharmony |

^Exactly. Some people trade purely on want / trade ratios. Some people trade just by values on the Bay. Some people trade by LE size, and / or age of the pin.
Most try and trade, I think, according to a mixture of all of the above. And yes, I've also had people send me very rude replies, such as, "This is
not a fair trade even from a distance, I expect fair trade offers in the future" and such. O.o Those are people I remember and refuse to trade with at
all. Anyone who is rude to me is someone I don't care to trade with in the future, no matter how much I want that pin. Trading is suppose to be fun, I want
to deal with people I enjoy!

Oh no, I would NEVER send anyone a rude reply to a trade request at all! I simply reply with a "thank you for the offer but I will pass for now"...
Pin trading is supposed to be FUN and I would never dream of just being rude to anyone who wanted to trade. My complaint was just mainly that I wished for a
person who would send out the same exact request every day for over a month would just check and delete the ones that they know have already been turned
down...
I know I have been bad for sending out requests without checking them but I try to check now all the time and delete the ones that I don't think
are fair.
I love getting my TA's though.. like I said I get 4-5 a day, sometimes less but I always am excited to look through them and see what kind of trades I may be able to make. I feel like I have made some trades that I am very happy with lately so I should not complain at all.

karib wrote:I do understand that part. But the overwhelming majority of trade requests I do currently get is something like Pin 67612: Booster Collection - Sleeping Beauty - 4 Pin Set (Maleficent & Diablo Only) trade ratio 24/22, open edition for Pin 70288: DisneyShopping.com - 6-Pc. Stitch Versus Disney Villains Pin Set (Stitch vs. Maleficent Dragon only) trade ratio 5/75, LE 100. Sorry, but that has nothing to do with a person valueing pins differently anymore. It becomes really funny when that trader picks all of my LE 100 and 200 pins and I get to choose which one to give up for the rack pin. And there are users who sent this list twice a week or more, even after I told them politely "no thank you". I may be expecting too much, but how hard is it to check your trade requests? I haven't traded for that long myself, but even when I started it never once would have crossed my mind to make an offer like that.

I am with you all. I don't mind getting them as long as it isn't the same people over and over. My favorite is a HM for my TOT POH. I need a good laugh
at 6:30 in the morning sometimes. I know I have send some out with hope, but never heard back.

As was said many times in this thread people do value their pins differently. Same as when trading in person, there is quite often the "my pins are better
than yours" mentality. I have traded OE pins for LE pins several times. I mean just look up the LE 1000 Black Heritage Celebration pin that was put out by
WDW (Pin 3888). I remember running to Epcot to get this pin (at that time LE 1000 was extreamly low!). And I had them in my trades book for years. I finally
put the last one on a cast lanyard at the All Star front desk. Same with some of the Disney Auction Brother Bear pins. The last one I had was # 26439, an LE
100. And I couldn't find anybody to trade it with. Yes there are more people wanting it than trading, but that didn't matter. So I would up trading for
a lanyard pin I was missing.
Lopsided trade requests are just part of online trading in my opinion. Some will go in your favor, and some in the other person's. But it will always come down to two people deciding in their head, with their percieved values, if this pin is worth that pin. And if you have any nagging doubts, than no it isn't. But otherwise it is. Anyway that is just my two cents worth.

everyone gets silly offers. only thing you can do is take the easy pins off your wants list if you don't want them to be offered for your good pins. I
won't put anything to easy on my wants. I hardly ever get a reasonable trade offer but what you could always do is look at the persons traders when they
offer the goofy stuff and make a counter offer that you feel is fair.

Yep, I get them too. All the time. I make very few trades these days because most of the offers I receive are totally ridiculous. I've just gotten to
the point that I delete them.

thartman79 wrote:That is exactly what I've started doing. I recently combed through my wants list and tried to get rid of the pins that somehow made it one there but I wasn't sure why. Or if it was a hidden mickey that I can get off ebay for 2 bucks all day, gone. I used to get about 10 requests a day, now I get about 3 per day and I complete just as many trades as I did before. I haven't done this yet, but my only other suggestion would be to split your trades between two accounts. Put your great traders on an account with your great wants and put your not so great traders on an account with your not so great wants. It's just important not to have the same trader on multiple accounts because then you start to throw off the trades/wants numbers. |

I answer all TA's regardless of whether they make sense or not. I have accepted some unbalanced trades, and I have made some myself. Sometimes the
character is hard to find or the pin means something special to you and whether its a LE or OE might not matter.
I also have gotten into MANY counter-trades when we go back and forth to try to work something out, that is a big part of the hobby. I never consider the requests "stupid" or uninformed and try to be civil when answering another TA. I HAVE gotten back some nasty e-mails, but I just try to smile and move on with life - this is a HOBBY after all!! Mike S. |

I think Pinpics could help too, I mean when you have clicked what can I trade to get this pin and it gives you a very long list you can click to see the
picture but it would be so much more helpful if it said the trades and wants at the bottom just to check you are not offering something ridiculous.

A lot of the time I think its just people either checking boxes without really paying attention or newer traders not really knwoing whats going on...I try to
reply to as many as I can but sometimes they are just silly I got one other other day with comments asking if I would trade 2 of my HM Ruby pins for one open
edition diorama...since the diorama cost as much as half of one of the mystery boxes that contained 4 pins...

My favorite is when people try to use eBay value for their pins and then try to use cost at purchase for yours. So funny. Had a guy try to do that to me
yesterday. He had awesome pins that I wanted and I had some pretty good ones to, but he gave me the eBay value for his and then listed cost prices for mine.
When I countered with eBay prices with mine he said I was being too difficult and it would be too hard to try and work out a trade. SHEESH
