Is there a thread about the DLR first Sunday GWP series coming to an end after Dec 2009?
I'm really bummed about it.
I think sales of pins at DLR will plummet; any DLR regulars want to share thoughts?

I think it is fair to WDW regulars who never had gwp pins while DLR had them.

But WDW had their own GWP pins. I know since I got several of them. That's what made trading fun. But...that being said, it will be nice that everyone has
a chance at the same pins.

GWP pins are NOT a factor in my pin buying decision process. It will not effect me at all.

GWP pins HAVE always been a factor for me in my purchasing decisions. I will surely purchase less pins without GWP. All my maps and pins are complete and
make for a great display. I would send completed maps at the end of each cycle to traders that I had traded with during the time period as a "thank
you". They loved getting them. It does not matter if it is WDW or DLR, a special part of buying pins is being eliminated and that is not fair to anyone.
DLR regulars would like to have a September event every year but we don't get that. It is what it is and for me, I will not be buying as many pins. I am
disappointed that DLR has made this decision and will miss GWP Sundays!

No more glorified cast traders is not a factor to me or anyone when purchasing a pin they want for their collection. If anything it evens the playing field,
Walt Disney World hasn't had a free pin program in many long years, why is it fair for one coast to have them? A majority of pin sales comes from tourists,
not pin traders/collectors, maybe this change will affect a small percentage of sales but I doubt its anywhere near enough to warrant to return to the old
methods. Its not like these pins were anything too special to begin with, many ended up on lanyards and few if any were ever a sole reason for anyone to
purchase enough to get it for collection purposes. I can see why this change might be unpopular but not getting a free cast trader is not going to change the
way I purchase pins.

Wow! I never knew WDW people held DLR in such contempt? No need to be snooty.
I got started pin trading with the first DLR GWP map. And this is another sign that my pin trading days are coming to an end. 10 years is enough for me. I did say that before I heard this gwp news. After the Haunted Mansion event in Sept, I'll be done! Yay! Think about how DLR got started with gwp sets and how long they did it. Imagine someone in the offices saying, "how do we get out of this"? "We've been doing it for so long." "Pin buyers are going to be mad." But I think it takes guts to make a change. It may not be something everyone likes. But just because they've always done it one way..... Aprille :-) |

They will lose sales from DL pin traders. Many pins I am on the fence about I wait until GWP sunday to purchase, just for the freebie. I cant count how many
times I was 6 dollars short from another free pin and they suckered me into buying another $8-12 pin to get the free pin (which I could of bought off Ebay for
$3 lol). I love framing the sets but overall I don't mind because it'll be less money spent and I wont have to worry about being there the first Sunday
of the month. And any pin I'm on the fence now will be more scrutinized.

why is it fair for one coast to have them? I wonder the same thing when it comes to having annual pin events. WDW gets several days of event and DLR gets a 1 day kick-off. That doesn't seem too fair... right. But I'd like to think that both coast are different so that we have reasons to trade. If WDW had the exact same pins the DLR had, there would be far less pin trading going on. Variety is good! Anyways, personally I love the GWP. And yes it will change my pin buying habits. GWP has really helped me to build my pin collection, and I will be sad to see it go. But i'm excited to see what new things they come up with. Email: Udan626@gmail.com

Didn't they say that they would be bringing the purchase with purchase pins to DLR like they have WDW?
Although I'll miss GWP Sundays, I'm always up for trying something new!!

Personally it will not change my habits at all. With me living 900 miles away I have never been able to make a GWP Sunday. Still sad to see it go. Still with
how Disney views pin trading I have to say it doesn't surprise me at all. Many of us West Coasters feel that WDW gets more than DLR and that is a fact of
life. Still East Coast if you think that we are uppity we just look at you with all the events and specials that you get that we don't so we feel that
when something that makes us different is removed that it makes us kinda of unfair. Still not trying to make this a rant so I will end with that .
I don't ask questions, I just have fun.

I am disappointed that DLR has made this decision and will miss GWP Sundays!I was at DLR today and asked a couple of CMs about this...they all told me this is a RUMOR so far, no one has heard anything about this being definite. And we all know how rumors fly around the parks...even among the CMs (especially among the CMs, lol!). Hannette |

Well my wallet will appreciate not spending $200 on the first Sunday of every month. Now I can just buy the pins I want to keep and not worry about traders.
I've already cut back on buying two of anything that can be bought in WDW also.

Unfortunately, this came straight from Steven Miller's mouth during the Epcot event. Scoop's 1 o'clock pin talk consisted of Scoop interviewing
Steven.
He did say there would be a purchase with purchase program, but those pins stay the same for a LONG TIME, not the themed sets like at DLR. IMHO, I wish other posters would express their own opinions and not "speak for others" Still sad |

I usually only buy traders on GWP so this will affect how I buy my pins. I am probably going to buy less now since I do not get a free pin with the purchase.
The PWP does not seem as exclusive and makes it seem like they are just going to give a HM like they did in WDW, although the set is going to be shared I
highly doubt the PWP will be as exclusive or wanted as a set as the GWP sets have been these many years. Just my $.02.

I think it's a bad marketing decision. I personally don't go every GWP Sunday but I know that a LOT of pin traders do, have for years, and not just So Cal locals, and that's when they buy buy buy. My opinion only: More and more, I think Disney is trying to phase out pin trading and just promote pin buying (although you wouldn't guess the latter by this latest decision), geared towards the tourist (visit, buy a ton of stuff, leave). Bottom line , if sales go way down starting in Jan, they may reconsider just as they did the $2:pin increase We can only hope!

Not only are they taking away the GWP Sundays pin, but they are no longer going to be giving cast members a pin on 4th of July, Thanksgiving, or Christmas as a
thank you for working. Nope, no more cast working day pins. They'll continue with giving out BUTTONS, as far as I know.

I don't see how and why they would want to phase out pin trading to focus on pin buying. Pin trading is what makes people buy! They see cast walking
around with lanyards full of pins, or they see someone trading, then their curiosity kicks in, they ask a few questions, and WHAM... new pin buyer / trader.
If cast and guests don't walk around and pin trade, then who is going to buy? That would be the worst mistake ever!
