avoid it,
If the seller is selling too good to be true pins for cheap prices then they are probably fakes. I bought a bunch of pins for $1.30 each from an ebay guy and i got all fakes, really good ones but definitly fakes. unfortunatly not all of them get caught and dont have negatives, but always check feedback before bidding. This doesn't always work, but if you can try to only buy auctions where the seller posts a picture of the actual pin, front and back. Often times you can
spot a scrapper that way and avoid it. I'd also avoid buying big lots from there because you don't know what you will be getting. The exception would
be when someone is selling their collection with pictures of all the pins, books, etc. Outside of hidden mickey pins, those are usually safe.

I always buy from people who look like they are just parting with their collection (have real pics, etc..), never sellers who use a bunch of stock photos and
sell a bunch of pins over and over again and NEVER mystery lots. I have not had any bad luck with scrappers thus far and I have spent A LOT..lol I don't
buy hidden mickey pins so that helps too when trying to avoid scrappers. Also, when I start seeing the same pin come up over and over I assume there are
scrappers and I will not buy them at all... (example is the Mine Car Doc which is all over ebay lately..haha)

I dont buy pins in bulk on ebay, but I have purchased a bunch on Dumbo pin individually. I have never had a problem. Honestly, I have recieved more fakes or
scrappers when trading in person, mostly becuase I have a hard time telling if the are fake or not. Some of these scrappers have gotten so good at it. If
you're looking for traders pins, there are a bunch of people within the ohana that sell traders that many of us have had good experience with.

You have to think to yourself, how can one person possibly sell 7,000 pins in one day, day after day after day. I bought from one person and I bought from her
in the past, but when they came, they were the exact pins as last time. (Only $1.25 each)

how many here buy pins from ebay?Never! I am tired of people buying pins from ebay and then passing them off as ligit/real/authentic. When I point out their pin is not real, guess what, they won't trade back. So, they get ligit/authentic pins for their cheap junk.

That's a tough one.
All of us have an opinion based on good or bad experiences. Should you choose to take a plunge in ebay; be well versed in what you're buying and follow the most frequently used guidelines by the other Ohana. |

usually I will only buy a pin if it's a pretty safe bet that there aren't scrappers of the pin. ie higher end pins

I've bought lots on Ebay before, around two years ago when there weren't as many scrappers. I still did get a few, but I let the person know and they
sent me new ones. So my experience has been pretty good.
It also depends on whether you're buying lots of lower end pins, or individual higher end pins. you're usually pretty safe with higher end pins, especially if it has some sort of element like a dangle or pin on pin, glow in the dark, etc. there have been some scrappers lately of base pins like the WDI i.d badge, which is why it's always good to ask people if they purchased the pin from WDI or if they traded for it.

I've bought a lot of pins on ebay. Mostly DA pins that I missed out on because we were not collecting back in the day. They are NOT scrappers and are
lovely large pins. I have gotten a few scrappers along the way some of which I have just thrown out.
Who is selling pins for a buck and a quarter each? Sign me up (if it is legit). |

I use ebay quite a lot. I have only found a few pins here to trade in the year I have been doing this. Some are just to old/rare or no one is trading them. I
always try pinpics first, then resort to ebay to finish off sets.

I've bought a lot of pins on ebay. Mostly DA pins that I missed out on because we were not collecting back in the day. They are NOT scrappers and are lovely large pins. I have gotten a few scrappers along the way some of which I have just thrown out. I was curious, are you talking about the old DA PINS? Or the more current DisneyShopping, or DisneyStore, or whatever they are this week (lol)? As more and more of the newer pins are showing up on ebay and are scrappers. Any more, I will not trade for any new pin without it's card. Seems there are plenty of the newer DS pins without their cards floating around and when I ask about the card and/origin of aquisition, it's ebay or some person outside of DTD (WDW). I steer clear. I also check PinPics. Sure enough, most of the time, the DS pin offered without it's card, has a scrapper warning on PinPics. As for your second question, that's the problem, if the lot of pins is $1.25 each, more times than not, they are junk scrappers.

I do also for only higher end pins.
I don't even trade/collect lanyard pins because I'd rather not worry about scrappers. |

Once I bought on eBay the Dreamfinder WDI I.D. Badge, and when I recieved it it was a scrapper and noticeably damaged. I then asked for a refund or replacement
and when I recieved the new pin it too was a scrapper.
Also, the scrappers on some of the pins are very noticeable now. I have a real WDW HM III blue Mickey flag pin and a fake one, and the scrapper is so easy to spot next to a real one.

Sadly most of these scrappers / fakes end up on CM lanyards since people buy them for < $1.50 and trade with unsuspecting CM's in the parks.
A CM that my daughter traded with inadvertently gave her a scrapper - I knew it when I saw it but we had left already. I am saving up my scrappers for our next trip and will try to turn them into WDW with the hope that I can get new 'real' ones back..... I have purchased from e*** and my experiences have been good for the most part but like so many others have said - I try to purchase collections of pins or higher end ones from a source that seeems to be liquidating their collection due to the recession or job loss.
Thank you!!!

I buy from ebay as well as trading on this Board and on pinpics. I've actually gotten more scrappers buying from people selling in bulk on this Board than
on ebay. Any pin priced at less than $2 each has a real high likelihood of being a scrapper....no matter who sells it. I'm not saying they all are, but
there is a good possibility. My worst scrapper trade was through pinpics and I ended up trading off a high end pin for a scrapper (again of a high end pin) and
wasn't able to resolve. I'm more willing to buy off ebay and worry about a scrapper than to trade or buy from here. At least buying on ebay, I can
force the issue and get my money back if the pin isn't authentic.
I agree that asking to see a real photo, asking if the original card is included and being well aware that if it is too good to be true.......beware.

If I want to get a Figaro-mostly Japan pins are what I need. Never had a problem, but I did bid on a too good to be true pin from 2 different sellers. One was
legit and the other was a scrapper-my first ever. I contacted them and they refunded me my money. If you pay with paypal, you can get a refund back, but you
have to know the system.

From a seller's viewpoint | ||
|
I have been an ebay seller since 1999, and sold Disney items since 2004 (my Dizpins ID is not my Ebay ID.). I have been a member of Dizpins since 2001. I have
NEVER sold a scrapper, and all anyone has to do is contact me to ask where I get the items I sell. The majority of the pins I sell come from 3 sources: my own
collection, discounted pins from the Disney warehouse stores in Florida, and from purchases made at garage sales here in Central Florida, where I buy from
former and current CMs. I have 100% positive Ebay feedback, and hundreds of happy repeat customers. I do not make a living selling on Ebay, only enough to pay
for our family's entertainment - movies, retaurants, travel, and annual passes. When I read posts saying "avoid ebay sellers", I am dismayed at
being lumped into a category of shady dealers and rip-off artists. I suggest that if you buy on Ebay, be a savvy shopper. If someone is selling pins in lots of
100 of the same pin, I would wonder where those pins came from and ask the seller. But if an ebay seller has listed your Holy Grail that was released 5 years
ago and is selling it on its original card, it may be someone who is selling a collection to pay for another semester in college, a trip to visit a loved one,
or just to make ends meet in these difficult economic times.
