My first pin framing effort |
Lead | |
|
Okay, so here is my first attempt at pin framing. Picked up an inexpensive frame at Big Lots and used a piece of scrapbooking paper to mat the set. I just
put it on there on the card that the pins came on. The worst part was trying to get holes through the back of the frame for the pins to poke thru. Any
secrets for this? Anyway, here it is in all it's simple glory!

That is beautiful!
What we do is lay down the back board of the frame on some carpet and put the paper/background photo/matting on top of it - place them exactly how you want them to be framed. Put the pins on top of everything and decide where you want them to go (center them, etc.). Then gently press the pins through all the way until you hit the frame board. Don't go though the board (in fear of breaking the pin post) but just put enough pressure on the pin just to leave a small indent on the board. Then take the board and simply hammer through the indents with a small nail that is roughly the same size as the pin post. Then put everything back together and the pin posts will slip right through. Hope this helps...

That's really nice! Nice frame. I've just started framing pins myself. A lot of fun, isn't it!
And Disney5 - thanks for the tip regarding getting pin posts through the frame boards. I was wondering about that myself. |

Beautiful frame!!!!
I place my pins on the actual background and push them through. I then lay the background over the back of the frame and use a marker to make the dots on the back of the frame. Once I have all my marks made I simply use my cordless screw driver to make a hole in the back of the frame. This will help to avoid splitting and cracking and it is a sure way to keep from breaking the posts off! Shell |

I have given this up and now use cardboard cut to the size of the frame.
I am always saving bits of old boxes so I have card for cutting. |

Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions on getting the pins thru. This one was kind of just a thick cardboard, so I put each pin post into a
rubberstamp pad and hoped that would mark where I needed to make a hole. Nope..no dice, so I did what one of you suggested and pressed a bit to make a mark
and then used a push pin to get thru it before I put the pin posts thru. Another frame I bought has a much sturdier background, so I will take your
suggestions and either drill or hammer my holes thru. The other "off" thing is that not enough pin post comes through to put a back on, but it also
doesn't go out far enough to scratch the wall so I just didn't worry about it. The cardboard is a good suggestion too though!
I am going to start using some of my scrapbook supplies for pin framing, papers, stickers and embellishments that have lain abandoned in my craft room for like a year. |

To prevent scratches on the wall when a Mickey pin back won't stay on, we just cut a thin foam sheet (like the ones you can buy cheap in the craft
department) and tape it to the back of the frame. That seems to work really good and the foam helps the frame stay in place on the wall.

Absolutely beautiful job putting together the frame - I think the pins, background, and frame go together VERY well!
