July 12th Fast Approaching | ||

Hey Guys; Three things on our To-Do-List: 1) Choose our trading site - current choices, Alderwood Mall or Seattle library, (any additional feedback?) 2) Post when and where our meeting is on the sites indicated by Kash at http://dizpinsboards.yuku.com/topic/4357 3) Get a logo made? Do we want a group name?.

I have a message en route to Alderwood, and I'll try to call them when I have a break in my work schedule. I've not seen any public rooms, outside of
the "birthday rooms" at the movie theaters, but we shall see. While they do have a food court, it tends to be VERY packed on weekends and I'm not
sure how well a "drop in" group that takes over a corner of tables would be recieved.
Information on the mall can be found here http://www.alderwoodmall.com/html/index13.asp I did have one other small ACE up my sleve, the Lynnwood Convention Center, but I just learned it was booked that day. And we're a bit too close (and weather unpredictable ) for local picnic shelters or meeting rooms but I'll check there too. There is a space near the local Boeing plant that could offer distractions for family as well as space to trade if the mall does not work out. |

I'll be scouting the mall tomorrow after work as well as checking out the crowd on Saturday. They have not responded to my inquiry on email but hopefully
they will have a nice community room that we could use.
Normally if I had more lead time, I could secure one of the rooms the Everett (WA) Parks department has available or if able to count on the notoriously fickle WA weather one of the picnic shelters. Hope to have news shortly so we can get everything nailed down. |

I can't guarantee how long the room will remain available, but I just checked with on of the public library branches and they have a meeting room
available from about 1:30 to 4:30 on the 12th. The room accommodates 59 people and is free of charge as long as absolutely no selling/buying of anything
occurs. They said trades are fine. There is no charge for the room providing they approve of our application.
So, if the Alderwood situation doesn't work out, please let me know as soon as it's decided as I imagine these rooms don't stay available on short notice very long. |

Thanks for checking Littlekiddle. I'm sure JKrolak will get back to us soon.
Regardless 1:30 - 4:30 sounds like a good time. Would this work for everybody else? Dyma dyma@guntoys.com

That sounds fine to me as a meeting time regardless of where we meet. I think both locations have advantages. If in Seattle I do not have to drive and can save
money. Alderwood Mall has a Disney Store though. I am fine either way.

A couple of thoughts I have had.
1. Are we planning on advertising this outside of Dizpins? Personally I am more interested in meeting my fellow dizpins members than outsiders. I am not talking about friends and family. I am referring to doing things like advertising it on others sites. But it is up to the group. I am coming regardless. Hmmmm there is only one at this time. I have another, but it can wait until we have a location decided on.

Kash suggested using Craigs List and the Disney Pin Broadcasting (I think that is right). I do understand your concern about keeping it within the immediate
Dizpin Group. It may be healthier to build our core group first.
Any thoughts from the rest of the gang? Dyma dyma@guntoys.com

Just a quick recommendation.
Book the room at the Library now, openings are RARER than LE50 pins to trade and they will have all the table space we can desire. We can always cancel and release the room back to the public if I can't find/get better space at Alderwood. I should have information from Alderwood once I get back from visiting them and the Disney store in the morning. |

News from the Northwest Pin Trading Post.....
I'm just back from scouting a location for the big pin rendezvous on July 12. The Alderwood mall does not have any community rooms available. They were lost during the last big remodel. On the other hand, they do have several items that can make them a nice place to come and trade pins. Some possible meeting locations include 1) The Terraces Food Court. They have a location near the Ruby's Diner cafe beside a large stone (gas) fireplace. Tables are available and it is off a bit by itself and out of the direct line of traffic. Based on my conversation with the staff at the information booth (NOTE: they have little if any real authority over how the mall conducts business.) as long as we're buying (from the food court) and not creating a commotion, they don't anticipate there would be any problems if we met there to trade. They would have a problem with anyone SELLING pins. They are also not very keen on wheeled carts inside the mall, but the location is right next to the set of main doors near the theaters. 2) Open terrace in front of the Terraces doors. An open patio near the Starbucks and restaurant center of the mall, if the weather is nice, it makes a nice place to come and trade pins. 3) The local Lowes Theater does have 2 meeting rooms typically for birthday parties. They're available, but it'll cost ya. The Local Disney store is open / friendly and still decorated in the traditional livery of the Magical Kingdom. Special attractions include the Fantasia ceiling mural in what was once upon a time the Disney Collectors Society room. Disney store pins are still available there... I managed to leave a few on the rack So the decision really comes down to this. The Library offers us a nice fixed and private room and guarenteed weather. Plus the attractions of Downtown Seattle. Alderwood mall has us out in the open (and potentially attracting new people to pin collecting) but cannot offer us any guaranteed space. One other consideration is that if we can gain support of Disney Store staff, they might welcome us as a regular meeting / attraction at the store. They really don't have any spare room for trading but we can always hope.... |

Thanks JKrolak!
You are awesome! "Northwest Pin Trading Post" is that your proposed name for our group? I like it. If no one else proposes something, may we adopt it? You have made strong points as to the pros and cons of both locations. We may need a poll on this one. I still like Littlekiddles suggestion of a 1:30 start. Speaking of which, if your out there Littlekiddle, did you get my email request? In conclusion: We now have day and time. Just the location is left! Whoo hoo! Dyma dyma@guntoys.com

Hey gang - sorry I haven't been able to chime in here as of late - been working some really crazy hours!! (at the office now in fact, but have a few spare
minutes)
I think the name of the group is fantastic, so you have my vote! This is all pretty exciting - thanks to everyone for all that has been done so far!! In regards to location - I think for the first meeting it would be nice to have a guaranteed spot - but that's just my opinion. I do however, like the thought of seeing if the Disney store would be willing to give us their support. -Tim |

Hey Tim;
Totally understand about work tying you up. And happy to get the input. So, you're thinking library too? I believe Melonballer and Littlekiddle are thinking the same way. I'm game either way. Is the library very far from the Seattle Market? I have a serious yen the the Crab Pot. Dyma dyma@guntoys.com

Sounds like that moniker is going to stick.
I had planned to do a little quick research to see if I could tie it more closely into a Disney movie, but it also fits with the old Trading Post days in the Oregon Territory days. I do seem to recall an old Frontierland picture (and pin) of Tink in a coon skin hat that might lend itself into a logo. |
