Tiki room box set SOLD OUT |
Lead | |
|
After a very frustrating evening to attempt to pick up this set, it is completely sold out. Just thought I'd make a post so no one else wastes their gas
and efforts to be disappointed

I was shocked that the boxed sets were gone tonight (even though they are very nice!). One CM seemed to think they might be at Pin Traders and maybe one other
locale. But who knows?
The framed sets were reportedly gone as well. T-shirts, too, I think. Couldn't tell ya about the bowls. |

I know that all the writsbands for the framed sets were handed out by 7:15, so I suspect they are sold out. There were about 100 people in line by 7 a.m.
They were still handing out wristbands for the boxed set at 10:30 when I left, but didn't have many, a CM told me, so I'm not surprised they sold out.

I didn't think this set would sell out as fast as it did but with the other Tiki Room merchandise release going on at Disneyana I can imagine that helped
the pin sales as that line was still down to the last store on main street at 10:15 am. Luckily, I was able to still get a wristband for the box set as I was
getting it for a friends birthday (in December haha, 6 months to wait) who turns 45 this year also and collects Tiki. My GF (who was walking slow and about 10
mins behind me) got the last wristband they handed out at pretty much exactly 10:30. If we weren't essentially "bodies" in order to get it for
other people I probably would have bought one for myself even though I don't collect Tiki as it was a very nice looking box set. I did get 1 of the other
three pins for sale, the one with donald hiding behind the tiki mask. As I said, I don't collect Tiki and I'm not a big fan of donald (although he is
my favorite of the fab 5) I though that pin was funny and clever so I bought it. All hail the Angry Tiki God Ducke. hahahaha

Waiting in line for the Tiki room pins
|
I wanted to share that I had waited in line at 5:30. I had gotten there at 3am, thinking this would be a big thing, but no one was there. Security came along
and told me to return at 5:30. When I returned there was a couple down from Sacramento that had been waiting in line since 9pm the night before and it
wasn't until 1:45am that they were noticed. they were told to come back at 5:30.
I am happy that this 6am rule is being enforced (though, yes, I got there earlier). I can more than empathize with anyone who didn't get to the line in time and lost out a pin/set/series that he/she really wanted. I've gotten in line at 6:30 am and already the max numbers were there. By 7am, there were over 70 people in line, as stated earlier. Some of these took a green wrist band though they told me they didn't think they'd get the framed picture. I advise some users to be careful with some CM responses with pins as often they don't know. This is NOT a criticism of them as they are doing their best. These tiki pins were ONLY available at green men store (is it store command?). Also, there was a very bad situation yesterday with not all stock being available at the merchandise event or misplaced stock. Sounds like this is what happened at the LGM store(?) My advice is to strongly encourage you to show up at 6am on the date of a pin release you want. If they sell out they WILL show up on ebay but often at a very steep price. Wish this could be a happier response.

The box sets didn't sell out until at least the late afternoon. No 6:00 AM arrival required.
A handful of frames went to folks that had not gotten wristbands, but had gotten in line at LGM for whatever was still available. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thank you dorybook for helping to inject some sanity into the discussion. People can get very excited and enthusiastic when it comes to the pins they want. There will always be those that go a little overboard, but information like you shared may help others realize that extreme measures are not always necessary to get some of the really nice pins.

My husband, brother, and I all purchased a Tiki Bird set yesterday morning with our wristbands. Then, at about 4 in the afternoon we went back through the
Little Green Men store and saw that there were remaining sets and purchased one more. After that we headed over to Downtown Disney and traded it. Since we
traded that one so quick we were going to purchase another and went back to the store (around 6pm) and there were none left - or so the CM told us.

"did it sell out?" popular question. and while it seems no one has the "right" answer. remember, sometimes the cm working that location has NO idea what they are selling us...they often work at other locations. other times, it truly has sold out, THAT DAY. i asked a cm sunday about the "rongo" bowl at disneyana and she said it had sold out....and it was indeed no longer available. but on monday they did get replenishment on it and i was able to purchase it. happens all the time. i think disney is silly for missing the mark when you have a 4 hour line of people wanting product and not to have all the available product in place, but hey, no big news there. their loss...patience is key! peace and cool tiki stuff!!! richard |

for the record you can always ask if they can go into the back stock room and see if there are more of it. they'll probably think you're crazy but
insist on it anyway. ive got a pin or two from doing that

for the record you can always ask if they can go into the back stock room and see if there are more of it. they'll probably think you're crazy but insist on it anyway. And "insisting" a CM do something may also get the following reaction. - CM goes in back or calls someone to go back - After going backstage, a few choice words are said about "those @%$^&$ pin traders" - Comes back onstage with a smile and says, "I didn't find any", which technically isn't a lie I have been lied to plenty of times by CMs, intentionally and unintentionally. It comes with the territory. Sure I get upset about it. Most would. But I have learned to just accept it because it's going to happen. What I have found to be most effective is just asking politely if they or someone else has checked the drawers/cabinets/back room to see if there are any left. If they answer "yes" (which may or may not be the truth), I just accept it and move on. Been doing this way to long to get too upset over it. Bottom line... Unless the pin is being released at a SINGLE location and you or someone you trust is at the store AT THE TIME they sold out, you can never know for sure if they really are all gone or not. Word of mouth, CMs telling you after the fact, reading it on the Internet, etc. are not always sure fire ways of knowing if a pin is truly sold out or not.

I have a question about the edition size of pins. Does this included the AP (Artist proof) pins as part of the edition size. Or is the edition size always a
few more, say 505 instead of 500. And are the AP pins sold of the racks?
One thing about SOLD OUT pins that I find funny, is when the SOLD OUT pins appear several months or years later on trade boards or give aways and stuff like that. For example, when Disneyland got the Hollywood star DSF released a pin with Tink and the Star logo. It was said to have been sold out, but a few years later, maybe a year later at the pin trading event in DSF they gave away about 5 of them in the raffel. Artist proofs & sold out
|
This is a very good series of questions. The AP never count as part of the LE. They are developed first. There are usually a handful of them (more if the
artist is going to keep some). There are usually at least 3: one with silver trim, one with gold and one with black. They are rarely offered for sale but
Disney Auctions used to sell them.
As far as sold out, what has been my experience is that 1), sometimes the stores don't truly count the items and assume they are sold out but 'discover' more in storage OR 2) people can't sell them on e-bay and so, within the 15 day refund period, return the merchandise they weren't able to sell. When I was at the Pirates event @ WDW last year, both of the above happened. They sold out of a figurine I kinda wanted. Then, at the end of the event, they "found" 5 more but were sold out of them (again) before I could buy 1. Then I went back just last December and there were 3 more of them I saw (1 in the MK park, 1 in WOD store and one in the Art store in the Marketplace of DD) but ended up not buying them (the figurine was about $150 and I had already gone way over budget). So, one never knows. Also, I do not think it would be unusual for staff to be told to hold back some items for special sales but I think it is more likely a combination of the above 2 scenarios. Hope this has helped. Take care -Jim |
