I have a 450LE ($10, 1:1.21) that a party is offering a 4800LE ($8.50, 1:1.5) in trade. Would I be in line requesting two 4800LE (both $8.50 at 1:1.5) in exchange for my 450LE??

What Would Be Considered An Equitable Trade? |

Hey Guys!
I have a 450LE ($10, 1:1.21) that a party is offering a 4800LE ($8.50, 1:1.5) in trade. Would I be in line requesting two 4800LE (both $8.50 at 1:1.5) in exchange for my 450LE?? Dyma

I think it depends on what the LE450 is and what the LE4800 is. For example, if they have a popular Haunted Mansion LE4800 and you have a less desirable
Monstro the Whale LE450, it might still be an even trade despite edition sizes. By contrast, if you have a popular Haunted Mansion LE450, then I think it would
be perfectly reasonable to ask for two LE4800 Monstro the Whale pins (or more) to trade for it.

Party is requesting my DisneyShopping.com - 2007 Christmas Mystery 4 Pin Set (Jack Skellington Only) for their 7490: Disneyland Halloween Mickey w/ Bats and/or
7491: Disneyland Halloween Minnie Witch.
I am still a newbie and want to learn to be a fair trader both ways, so I welcome the advise. Thanks for helping me learn! Dyma

If you have an open edition pin that they want I would trade your 2 for their 2. As is I personally wouldn't trade 1 for 1, but if you could add in another
pin I would do 2 for 2.

^ I agree - 1:1 in that case wouldn't work for me, but if you really want both pins, you can add in an open edition or trader pin on your side that would
work as a 2:2. Or, considering the pins you want have more people trading than wanting, hold your LE450 for another trade and wait and trade something higher
edition for the ones you're looking for.

In a paraphrase: Asking for the two 4800LE for my 450LE, would not be equitable. Instead, offer an open or trader, in addition to my 450LE for the two pins -- if I am going to agree to the trade -- Right? What's the difference between a trader versus a open pin? Dyma

A trader can be any pin someone can stick on a lanyard for trade - it's generally an 'anything goes' kind of pin and can be anything from a cutie
to a common hidden mickey or even a high edition LE.
BIBITBOBITBU suggested that you see if you have an additional open edition/rack pin that the other trader wants so you can offer them two pins they want for the two you want. I added an alternate suggestion if you don't happen to have an open edition pin they want - to suggest throwing in a trader (which can be anything extra you have that's usable for trade) instead. So you would be offering either: LE450 + open edition pin for LE4800 + LE4800 or LE450 + trader for LE4800 + LE4800 It's surprising how hard it can be sometimes to trade for a high edition pin - I've been after an LE5000 for almost two years now (23327) and just can't seem to trade for it. Ah, well, eventually it will happen. 'Twas brillig! Jabberwocky

You're welcome.
As someone who hated math, it's amazing how many numbers I had to learn to juggle (and memorize) in order to trade pins. Now, if the path of an unladen swallow equals the total miles per three high LE pins, and a train leaves Orlando at 90mph selling 14 different rack pins at $12 each plus applicable sales tax, how much debt will you be in on Tuesday? If there's one thing I've learned in pin trading, it's that there's no one element (edition size, original price, etc.) that you can use to
determine whether or not a trade is equal and fair. The most important elements seem to be current value and the person you're trading with. There are some
people who are very lax about value/edition size/etc. as long as both parties are happy, and some who seem to always want to come out on top.
Personally, I use a combination of all of the elements, including how much I want the pin and the attitude of the person I'm trading with, to decide whether or not I should do it. Sometimes you'll give a little, and sometimes you'll come out with the better end. A lot of us believe in "pin karma", meaning it all balances out. I don't mind "trading down", as it were, if I still feel good about it. And, unfortunately, you'll even be taken for a ride a couple of times, or regret a trade. Just try to brush yourself off and get back up again...it happens to almost all of us. Hope that helps, and good luck. |

There are some people who are very lax about value/edition size/etc. as long as both parties are happy, and some who seem to always want to come out on top.I am a bit this way as long as I am comming out with something i want I am usually fairly happy. This is much more so with pin I actually bought at cost. If i bought them at a premium online whether here or on ebay I am more careful about what I trade them for. I watched someone at the event calculate pins up to their "value" for a pin I know is not selling above what it was bought for but the traders were both happy so what the ...... I have rambled enough

I apologize. And you're absolutely right to object... ...the cost of gas rose over the holiday weekend and therefore everyone needs to recalculate their answers! 'Twas brillig! Jabberwocky
