About the lanyards, it's the funniest thing, but until my most recent trip to WDW, I didn't even realize that lanyards came in different sizes. I knew that you could buy them in the parks or on DisneyShopping.com, but I just thought they came in the one adult size. In fact, I remember hearing guests ask if lanyards came any smaller because the ones for sale were too big for their children to wear, so I guess Disney started making them in kids and adult sizes. I just happened to notice when I was looking at the starter sets that one of the lanyards was a smaller size for children - go figure. In any case, I'd think it should be quite easy for you to find an adult-sized lanyard for you to display your trading pins.

As for the pins that you purchased on eBay: I understand how you feel, but it would be nearly impossible to say with any degree of certainty whether or not your pins are real or scrappers/fakes without seeing them in person, and sometimes the scrappers/fakes are so good, even seeing them in person isn't even enough without having a known real pin for a side-by-side comparison. The only way to be able to 'tell' is to know what the pins are supposed to look like and, in some cases, as I said, compare your pin to one that you know is real. You can look at the Comparison Boards and the Not Wanted Pins and Counterfeit Pins (the latter two are at the top of the boards) to see if any of the pins you've purchased are pictured there. Those lists aren't exhaustive, but they do include some of the more common scrappers/fakes seen floating around.

I wouldn't say that you're being paranoid - I think that you're doing your homework about a fun but complicated habit, er, hobby and you're addressing an unfortunate but very real aspect of it. In this, pin trading is no different than any other collectible-based hobby - you have honest and not-so-honest sellers out there and you need to be careful when you buy pins on the secondary market, which is one of the reasons why I typically don't buy random trading pins on eBay. I try to buy those on the Sale Boards - several of the Ohana sell them at reasonable prices from time to time. However, this is NOT to say that the pins you've purchased are scrappers/fakes - they might be perfectly fine. My instincts are telling me that you'll probably be okay trading them at WDW, but again, without seeing the pins in person, there's no way to tell.
