Disneyland Resort pin trading |
Lead | |
|
I am visiting Disneyland for the first time as a pin trader next month, and I have a question for those who have gone to Disneyland recently. I just heard on
the Disney Pincast podcast that not many cast members at DL have the pin trading lanyards. Is that true? They said that it had been a couple years since they
had last visited, but they were very disappointed in the number of pin trading cast members, compared to Walt Disney World. Where are the best locations for
pin trading at the Disneyland Resort? Any advice from more experienced pin traders at Disneyland would be greatly appreciated. I am currently collecting a
pin from every attraction at Disneyland, and I am hoping I can get some of them by trading while I am at the resort.
Thanks! |

There are a couple of factors. There are fewer people working at DL so there are fewer lanyards. While there in July I noticed that a lot were wearing the hip
pouches and made it more difficult to see them. I have noticed a decline in WDW also so it goes both ways. Good luck and have fun.

I found that a lot of the cast member's in the store had lanyards, they just weren't wearing them. If you ask to look, they'll grab them for you.
This was also true with the front desk at the Disneyland Hotel. |

The cast members are not required to wear the lanyards and they will take them off if they are busy. All you need to do is ask and they will pull them out
again. Check out the maintenance people. A lot of them wear lanyards.

Always ask Cast Members if they have a lanyard or hip pouch even if you don't see it. Many do, they are just under a
counter or in a drawer--pins can get heavy! Ride operators do not have pins--they're kinda busy! Teal lanyards are for children only from ages 3-12. Not
all cast members want to wear a lanyard, even though they can.
I find that the best places to find pins are in the shops that are on the edges of the park. My last visit had the best hits at the shop in Critter Country where Splash Mountain guests got off (can't remember the name of it). Also, Hidden Mickey pins can be found early in the morning when the CM gets a new set of pins for the day. By the way, CM's pins are issued by the park, that's why they have to trade. Be weary of Pin #+@%!+. They are not Cast Members, just park guests who aren't always honest when it comes to trading. Read this link about Disney's etiquette about trading, it may help answer some of your questions. Pin Etiquette

We're at DLR there most Sundays | ||

Vicci and I hang out at the bench in front of Westward Ho in Frontierland most Sunday mornings. We carry 'children of all ages books' which usually
contan rack pins, hidden Mickeys, and lots of odds and ends. You'll never find that LE 250 you've got on your holy grail list in our books, but you
will get a pin-for-pin trade anf if you're looking for a certain pin or a certain character and we've got it, it's yours.
We've also been known to wander over to DCA from time to time. We once had a group of about 15 pfirst time pin traders trading pins on the back trail in from of the Roaring Rapids. If you see us, stop by, say Hi, and feel free to trade. |

I have not traded at WDW, so I can't compare, but when I was at DLR about 2 weeks ago, I found plenty of CMs wearing lanyards!
Best places for me were: in the shops, at the Disney Vacations kiosks, the pin shop in DTD, and the COAT (Come Out And Trade) pin books at Westward Ho. This takes place daily at 1:30, but people start lining up 15-30 minutes before. There are other COAT locations and times, but none were happening while I was there (midweek), so I can't help you with that. Also keep an eye out for executive-looking CMs (wearing business casual attire) walking briskly through the park - I got some of my single best things from these people. Good luck! |
