When I realized I could trade for them at the park (what really hooked me) I figured I should narrow it down so I could focus on one or two things. That has really worked for me so far. My areas of interest are in The Little Mermaid and Mickey & Minnie coupled together, especially the wedding ones. I like everything from open stock to low LEs, but I don't let the popularity of a pin sway me to its favor. It's tough seeing a pin you really want on eBay and passing it up because it's over $25. I set limits and I never buy a pin for more than it was originally purchased for. I figure I'll pick it up through a trade instead someday. Michelle

No workie no pinie! It can definitely be addicting. I do notice that the longer I collect, the pickier I become, so thank God it does seem to slow down... The good news is they are smaller than beanie babies or David Winter cottages... (My last two collecting addictions!) It does seem that I do sometimes have a problem parting with pins, even those that I purchased specifically for trading.... Sounds like an addiction to me! Although, I did sell my 55 gallon freshwater aquarium so I would have cash for pins -- Hubs (the Enabler) got a $50 sellers reward. If I was reeeaaalllly addicted, that $50 would have gone for pins! All joking aside, as with anything, an addictive behavior may occur. I think most of us are joking about the "addiction" part. We are mainly having fun with the hobby and find the goodwill in this community very energizing.

Agree that pin collecting and trading is attractive to those with a tendency towards OCD, me included. And, with the advent of the internet age, including pinpics and ebay, it's possible for those of us not living near a park to engage regularly. It's relaxing to look through pins, rearrange them and look through data bases and fellow-pin traders wants/trades to find new things that are attractive. However, the best part is the escape of attending an in-person pin trading event, meeting fellow pin traders and, especially, finding pins that you never knew existed and that provide beauty and/or a good laugh! Thank you to everyone who has ever traded with me!!! After my last event at TTYF, my family decided that they wanted to join in, so my husband and I are now training the next 'generation' of pin traders. We are finding that it is a good lesson for kids - that they have to understand each pins' value is both to themselves and to the person they are trading with. And, not to trade unless they are sure they want the other pin more than the one they have. Like work2pin, we find that we become pickier over time, and that the priorities become clear, and it is easier for us to put larger numbers of pins into the 'traders' category. Happy Pin Trading... Simply put, when you find you enjoy something so much, you begin to want to acquire more of it because you enjoy what you have so much. I've found that setting limits helps keep things under control. 1. Choose your theme(s) and then abide by it. 2. Buy/trade for a pin only because you truly like the pin or you know it will help you obtain a HG pin. For instance, within my chosen themes, I have passed on pins featuring those characters because I didn't much care for them. Trying to avoid the completist mentality can help reduce stress and keep the hobby enjoyable. 3. Follow the golden rule. Treat others kindly and remember that this is just a hobby. Chances are you're going to miss out on a pin you would love to have at some point, but if you treat other traders kindly, this kindness will come back to you. You may not get the pin you wanted on date A, but at some future date, your kindness will return to you and you'll acquire a future Holy Grail. 4. It's okay to branch out from your theme. Just remember that when you do, keep to the factors you have set to determine if you want a pin. What this really does is help you control how much you spend(in theory anyways

When I used to live in central FL I would ask for specific days off from work to be at the parks for certain pin releases. Ebay send me a million reminders a day on pins that have just been listed that I am looking for. Sometimes, while at work i will eaither take an earlier or later lunch so I can be online when said Ebay auction is closing. I often sell things to buy more pins. I have no problem what so ever, buying a few more generic things I.E food, paper products or whatever so that i can buy a pin I know is about to be sold or released. Yeah, i guess I an am addict. But as mentioned earlier it brings a lot of joy and nobody (including myself) gets hurt. Now if pin bookies exists,well I'll cross that bridge if I ever come too it (LOL) . All in Good Fun!!!!!!! I think I have a pin addiction. After last years Disney trip is when it REALLY hit me. I saw so many really nice pins that I wanted to get more. I started buying from ebay and DS.com. I spent around $300 on random pins over a period of about 2 months and then realized what I had done and had to make myself stop. I just did not have that kind of money to be doing that. I was feeling horrible about it. I left the ohana for a while and had to stay off of ebay. I did SOOO well for a while... THEN I got that email from DS.com about the pin sale and went a little crazy. After getting those I was right back here with the ohana and right back on ebay and pinpics all the time. I have TRIED to tell myself no more pins but they always bring such a smile to my face. I love looking around on ebay and pinpics. I love coming here and reading all about what others are getting and doing. You can meet some of the nicest people too. I have always been a BIG collector. If it is not one thing it is another. When i was really young it was Happy meal toys. I wanted all I could get. After time it became random snowglobes. Then barbie dolls and then the dreaded beanie babies which became crazy for me. My aunt and I were out all the time checking out the new ones and seeing what we were lucky enough to get. We always had the best time getting up early to go on a beanie hunt. I loved standing in the lines with the other collectors waiting for the stores to open and see what was in. I miss that a lot. Now they all sit in tubs in my closet though. I bet I have about 3-400 of them. So now it is pins.. I started out buying about 50 pins to take on our first Disney trip in 2005 since the idea of trading sounded like so much fun to me. I had the best time trading with the cm's which is about all I ever do. (had a bad experience with people in DTD with their books and was too scared to ever try that again..lol) I did good not buying between trips except for right before we left getting some for traders but after last years trip it just finally hit me. I look forward to going to Disney each year though so that I can stop to trade with cm's and chat with them. They are always so very nice. My 5 year old just loves it too so I like getting him into it. He was so cute with it all last year. I can't wait to give him a lanyard to wear this year too. SOOOO... I have gone from about 150 pins last Sept to almost 600 now. EEK!! I have GOT to stop. I do always buy at graet deals. I watch ebay a lot and trade some. Still I am no expert in the least but I have definitely become more picky over time which kills me ...haha I have come to a point where I have to stop buying though as much as possible. I just don't have the money to be doing it anymore. I say that as I sit here waiting on the DS.com pins to come out..lol I will never admit to anyone what I have spent since February but lets just say I might be paying on this credit card for quite some time and I am already so scared I am going to have to start parting with some. Not a fun thought at all as I love each and everyone I have.
