Dizpins Ohana Member Posts: 183 (05/06/08 12:20 AM) Dizpins Ohana Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	i think it takes the fun out of the hidden mickey aspect. they werent meant to be 'bought', that is what made them fun to find. they werent 'meant' to be made into scappers either, so i can see 'why' some people would want to make sure their pins are authentic. i dont think we will be buying any of these pins in the future. it is more fun to hunt them down imo. plus there are plenty of pins that will not be easily found on lanyards to spend my pin money on. as long as they still plan on putting hm's on lanyards AS WELL as selling the pouches, i will get ours on lanyards. i think it will hurt the trading aspect of the hm's. we had a blast taking the new hm's from florida on our trip to california this year. they were NEW and people loved that we brought them out. now, all collectors have to do is order them by mail if they really want them. takes some of the fun out of it imo. the upside, now that the hunt isnt 'as much' of a challenge, maybe my dh will not 'need' as many of these sets anymore gotta look on the bright side! gail My Wants My Trades

I liked the uniqueness of being able to only get the pins from Cast members. When they tried to oversized hidden mickey rack pins they flopped. I think this will take the "special" out of Hidden Mickeys!

I will no longer have to trade for lanyard pins from greedy people who have 10 of the same hidden mickey pin in their book who want one of my good LE pins just because they say they saw it sale for that much on ebay. 2. I will no longer be disapointed everytime I go to Disneyland because I can never find a lanyard pin. Seriously it has been months since I found one and I go atleast once a week.. 3. I will no longer see stampedes of people running into Pin trading nights for 45 min. wait lines to get lanyard pins. Cast members wont be the only people putting Hidden mickey on lanyards, hopefully regular traders put their extras on lanyards for someone else to find. And yes of course the "Authenticity" part that everyone is most worried about. EVERYONE WILL FINALLY BE HAPPY!!

Like some have said, I think this will hurt the HM craze. First I like searching for the new HM pins and being able to trade my extras for pins that I need or want. The value of these pins would thus decrease and I won't be able to get as much as I could have for this pin because I would imagine there would be many more of them readily available. And what if I were to buy a pack where I received extras of what I already have? Would I even be able to get something of equal value for this pin or would it only be as good as another pin to trade onto a lanyard. Granted I think at the $10 price point it shouldn't hurt it as much as it could had the price been lower. The rationale being why would I pay $10 for something I could find for free (minus of course the cost of the trader pin). Maybe as long as the release between the pouch and the actual monthly release is far enough in between and of course we know some people have that "Got to have it now" mentality so that may still help. I guess we shall see. With all that said, would I buy one of these pouches. If it's a set I really want and was unable to complete during its first release... probably! Ryan

I already buy enough pins! One thought about authenticity: if you buy an HM in the Mystery Pin Pouch, you know it is authentic, but if you subsequently trade it with someone (because it's a duplicate or you aren't into that pin anymore), the person receiving it has no guarantee of authenticity. For example, the ones coming out at DLR on 05/16 are the sets that came out in January, February and March. Personally (as I'm sure many of you that do collect them) I found all of January's in January, Feb in Feb and March in March so I have no desire to purchase them as I already have them. IF they came out at the same time as they are released to lanyards I wouldn't buy them as I personally like hunting for them as well. Yes it can be frustrating at times after hunting the entire park and not finding any but on many an occasion while hunting for them I came across another pin that I really liked and, sometimes one that was even on my wants list. Plus I get lots of exercise covering just about every square foot of the DLR resort, from DL to DCA, to DTD and even the hotels at times. I can imagine the main reason Disney would do this is for tourists. If you are a tourist and you want those pins but don't have the time to run around the park going from cm to cm when you could be on rides and seeing shows this works well for them. It can also be good for those of us that like the hunt because if those tourists get duplicates, most likely those are going to be put on lanyards to get other pins they want. I think $10 for 2 pins is a bit pricey as well for those of us that like the hunt as you probably get your traders for much less than $5. Again, for a tourist, and probably others as well, there is a cost/benefit to not having to hunt for them so paying $5 each is not an issue. Since you can buy most pins you want on ebay if you are patient enough, I guess it does not make a difference who is doing the selling. I agree at least these are genuine. I admit that since I do not live near a park, that I have bought certain HM pins to complete a set. Maybe this will stop people from trading for every HM pin they find on a cast lanyard in hopes of selling them on ebay for $10 a piece!! I now know that if I wait a few months they should be more available at reasonable prices. I do agree that the fun is in the hunt, but I don't see how this changes that for those who like hunting! I too am mixed regarding the sale of the HM pins. We have only started hunting about a year or so ago and as an adult I enjoy the hunt and interacting with cast members. However, from my son's perspective he gets frustrated when after 30 minutes of the park being open ALL the lanyards we see carry "junk". Lots of cuties, scrappers and Euro-pins, even the green kid lanyards get hit. It's tough on him and I am sure other kids as well. By the time some lanyards start to show promise (late evening refreshes) he can't be bothered. I am hopeful that people will trade their extras back to CMs and that way the kids have a better shake at finding "worthy" pins. I'm not so sure that this will impact FleaBay much as they are the older series. The sellers will still make sure they snap up the newest as soon as possible in order to get the premium from the impatient buyers.
