Anyone else out there have this problem? If so...how do you handle it? I'd love to meet other pin trading shutter bugs!

Any other Pin trading Shutter bugs? |

I have been spending a lot of time these days on my "other" hobby - photography - and I'm getting a bit anxious about how to carry everything I
want to have with me in the parks on my upcoming trip. I have the Lowepro Slingshot 200 bag, which is great for my camera (Nikon D300) and the one lens
I'll bring, and it has extra space for other things too. I have someone making me a new camera strap that will hopefully serve as a lanyard for me too -
fingers crossed on that one! But carrying the camera, trading pins, "display" pins, Pal Mickey, room card/cell phones, and other misc items...well,
it's mind boggling! And sometimes a bit strangling too...LOL

I wish! Marty will spend his days on the golf course and I wander the parks on my own...but he will take Pal Mickey for me when he meets up with me in the
evenings!

I have a Nikon D80, great camera. I was thinking about getting the D300, but then I thought, it will go down in price. If you really want to invest in this
hobby to get the best possible pictures, lenses are the way to go. I was thinking about downgrading to a D40 so that I can get some really awesome lens cuz its
better to have a decent camera body and a really nice lens, as opposed to the other way around. The D300 is an excellent camera, but wow, that must be
difficult to carry it with a lens AND your pins! Seriously, for vacations or casual outings, the D40 is the way to go unless you really are serious about
photography and don't mind lugging around heavy camera equipment...been there done that

I love my itty bitty digital camera...it doesn't take super fancy pics or anything, but it's way easier to carry!

Hi!
I've been carrying a D-100 w/ 17-35 or 24-120 for a while now. That hangs around my neck and shoulder across my body diagonally with a neoprene wide camera strap. I just got a D-80 and haven't been to the park yet with it. Flash, extra, batteries and memory cards are carried in a backpack along with a bag lunch and can of soda.. The pin bag(s) might go in the backpack but it is nuts to try and carry it all day. Usually I go pin trading or taking pictures separately not both at the same time. If I am attending an event then I use a rolling suitcase for the pins and wear the camera. I'm almost 54 years old and work out 3 times a week but my sternum starts to ache if I wear the camera all day long. I had bipass surgery almost 4 years ago and my sternum is wired together with titanium wire. You can strengthen your muscles with exercise but if the aches and pains are in your bones and joints I don't know what can be done about that. A camera does you no good if it is put away. It has to be ready to take pictures immediately or it is just a brick with a strap on it. I don't think a pin lanyard camera strap is a good idea. The pin backs are going to be a problem. If you can figure out a way to do it, more power to you. The weight of the pins will interfere with the operation of the camera when the strap keeps getting in the way. Maybe one or two pins on the camera strap would be OK. Still how do you store it all in a bag and keep the pins from scratching the camera and lens? -Gene |

One can always rent a stroller and dump everything in it.

I have the D40x also..but I am serious about photography and don't really mind the extra weight of the D300. It kicks the D40's butt, so I haven't really picked up the D40 in a few months, unfortunately. My DH uses that body now. Patty

On the strap, I'm only thinking of having 3-4 pins on it, and I don't think it will be a problem. The camera will be out of the bag most of the time,
because as someone else has pointed out, it isn't any good in a bag..it's just dead weight then. But I find that wearing a lanyard AND a camera is
more of a chance for something to get scratched, so that's not an option for me anymore. Additionally, I was getting strangled by it all! Something had
to go...
I was really just looking to see what others do...I know carrying a camera can be hassle for some, but I'm pretty dedicated to it. And I wouldn't carry an actual pin bag in the park...I just carry a small bag of extra traders with me in the parks. The only conflict is at a pin event, but for the big one in Sept I'll use my rolling bag for my pins and that will make that easier. The May event will be more of a challenge...and I might leave the D300 with my husband for a few hours (GULP - I can't believe I said that - I don't think he's touched it yet LOL)

we love photography, considering i have a degree in digital media and was required to learn slr and digital cameras we got really into it. anth has a cannon
a-1 i guess its called SLR with a zoom lens, fish eye (with cool red and yellow filters and built in sky filter), a polarizing lens, and a blue lens. we only
use that when we specifically go out to take cool/artsy pics. for everyday in the parks we just use our kodak digital cameras. but hopefully one day we weill
be able to afford a cannon or nikon digital cuz well my kodak battery latch thing is almost dead!!! when anth brought his camera to san fransisco he just put
everything in a backpack so it was easier to carry.
btw, this camera used to be his grammys so its a really nice slr, if not for her giving it to him we so woldnt be able to afford all that stuff
