I was recently participating in a Disneyana auction trying to win some old cels and Vernon Kilns sculptures and a necklace of Mickey riding a butterfly caught
my wife's (Christy) eye. It was in a lot of "leftovers" - items that the auction house did not place great value in and put in one large lot -
of Disney jewelry and small sculptures. I recognized that there was a Hudson Fantasia miniature sculpture in the lot, so we bid $150 and won (Christy really
wanted the necklace).
We received the lot in the mail today and the necklace along with most of the other jewelry is Wendy Gell pieces. There are three broaches- none of which are on PinPics. A giant Mickey Mouse broach with crystals, a smaller Minnie Mouse one also with crystals and one of Snow White (sans crystals). The jewelry consists of clips, bracelets and button / cuff-links fillers.
I don't know anything about Wendy Gell, other then she designed some jewelry and pins for Disney. I was quite surprised to find a price tag of $300 on the large Mickey Mouse broach and $1200 on a set of Roger Rabbit crystal inlaid clips!
Are these really that valuable or did they not hold their value after market? Anyone know anything else about Wendy Gel and her pins and jewelry? Any help is appreciated.
