While at Disneyland in October, I made it my personal mission to collect all five of the hidden mickey pins from set 10.
They included Donald, his nephews, Witch Hazel and the Hitch Hiking Ghosts. Well, I collected Everything except for Witch Hazel.
I agreed to a trade on pin pics to receive Witch Hazel, and when I got it, I had a sneaking suspicion that it was a scrapper. Now, I didn't have another one to compare it to, but I sent it back anyway and traded with someone else's pin. The second pin was genuine, so my thoughts on the first were right. Below I will list the differences I noted from handling both of them. (Sorry, no side-by-side pictures.)
1) The finish, or the glaze on the pin was not as smooth or shiny as the other 4 (Donald, Huey, Louie, Dewey). I would've felt the difference blind folded!
2) The yellow color on all the pins matched, except for Witch Hazels. I noted the same yellow color on the duck's feet, inside the jack-o-lanterns eyes and mouth, and their duck bills. Witch Hazel's hair and moon did not match.
3)Witch Hazel is actually made of two colors of black. One is more of a grayish color. On the scrapper, the difference was very subtle, whereas the genuine stood out.
4) One of the nephews holds a brown candy bag and the other holds the devil's pitch fork. The brown from the pitch fork staph and the candy bag should match Witch Hazels broom. My First Witch Hazel's broom color didn't match, but the genuine one did.
5) The belt buckle on the witch hat was a crisp white on the genuine pin, but cloudy looking on the scrapper.
6) The color of Witch Hazel's nose should be a bright bubble gum pink, but on the scrapper, it looked cheap and almost neon.
7) The post on the back of all my genuine HMs matched in quality, but the scrapper looked less sharp (literally and figuratively) and the ridges on the post weren't defined compared to the others.
I hope this helps everyone. I know it's confusing without a picture, but I never had two at the same time. Email me with any questions and I would love to answer them.
