How do you find locations that offer special/exclusive pins |
Lead | |
|
My son and I are pretty new to this (we were bitten by the bug in January on our trip to Disney World) and were curious as to how and where the special pins
could be found (ones that aren't sold in the parks). Ones that are only offered to DVC or Annual pass holders (which we are both as of now), the AAA pins,
the special event pins, etc. Are there pins that are only sold at the hotels? And where can you find the Limited Editions pins? We went to an event recently
and everyone was really only interested in trading for the limited edition pins - which we didnt have any of so were out of luck. What characters are the most
popular to collect? Sorry for all the questions but any help would be great. OH and does anyone have any recommendations for trustworthy sellers on eBay (we
bought some pins from someone recently and without knowing ended up with a bunch of scrappers. We just learned about that and went through our pins and were
pretty disappointed).

Hi! Welcome to Dizpins!
I'll try to answer as many questions as I can. Limited edition pins can be found all over the parks-- Pin Central at Epcot (in future world in front of the big fountain), Uptown Jewelers in Main Street at MK, Frontierland at MK, Sorcerer's Hat at DHS, and Island Mercantile at AK. The biggest pin store is at Downtown Disney on the Marketplace side. DVC & Annual Passholder pins can be found at most or all of the stores listed above-- but behind the counter. You have to show your credentials (DVC card, AP, ect) in order to purchase these pins. Most guests are interested in limited edition pins, yes. "The most popular characters" is a hard thing to determine. My opinion is that right now? Haunted Mansion, Stitch, Jessica Rabbit, Tink & Princesses would be the top 5. However, that is something that is constantly in flux. If you are interested in trading mostly open edition pins, I would start with Cast Members. Their pins belong "to the mouse" as opposed to the individual. They will accept any Disney pin as long as its metal, has the appropriate backstamp, and they don't already have one on their lanyard. You are allowed to trade two pins per person, per cast member's lanyard, per day. Attaining the special event pins varies-- sometimes they are from special breakfasts, sometimes from hard ticket events put on by Disney. The big pin event is done in September every year. Registration opens in a few weeks for this year's event. I hope that you find these answers useful! Cristy |

Welcome!
You can also get Limited Edition pins online from DisneyShopping.com. And to throw in a few more popular themes in addition to what Cristy said, there's also Pirates and Villains (especially Maleficent). 'Twas brillig! Jabberwocky

First, let me say 'Hi' and 'Welcome to Dizpins!'
As Cristy, said, you can purchase Limited Edition pins all over WDW - and yes, you also can purchase any DVC and AP pins at those locations as well. I don't believe that I've ever seen Disney sell any AAA pins - I think those are given out when you redeem a certificate given when you book a Disney vacation through AAA. In my experiences, I have found that most guests are interested in Limited Edition pins or in Cast Lanyard pins/Hidden Mickey pins (particularly the most recently released ones). I've also found that the following themes/characters tend to trade really well: Stitch/Lilo & Stitch, Tinker Bell, Chip & Dale, Jessica Rabbit, Maleficent, Jiminy Cricket, Haunted Mansion, and POTC. However, if you find the right person, any pin theoretically can be a 'good' trader. I do know that sometimes pins are sold only at the hotels, but that only happens in two circumstances of which I can think. The first is the annual Christmas Resort pin set, where each of the resorts gets a special pin for the holiday. Each pin is sold only at its respective resort. The second is when a surprise/mystery pin is released at a resort, but I don't think that has happened at quite some time. I know that sometimes Disney will release a surprise pin at a Pin Trading Night at the Contemporary, but if that pin does NOT sell out that night, I'm not sure if the balance of the pins remain at the Contemporary or are distributed to other pin selling locations. I almost never buy trading pins off of eBay for that very reason - with all of the problematic pins circulating, you just never know. I much prefer buying my trading pins (to stick on CM lanyards) from the Ohana members who sell them on the Sale Boards. I much prefer buying my Limited Edition traders either at the parks myself (I live near DLR and get out to WDW several times a year) or asking friends to pick them up for me - again, I'd rather not deal with eBay because there are so many dishonest people out there. I hope this helps - and never apologise for asking too many questions. Remember that even the most experienced pin trader once was new to this hobby at one point and asking questions is the best way to learn. Stefanie

DisneyShopping.com posts new pin releases every Monday and offers free shipping for most pins on those Mondays. They quite often have some fun and cool
designs.
